Wreck on Interstate 5 in Tacoma is hampering traffic Friday | Tacoma News Tribune

Tacoma, WALocal News

Traffic on Interstate 5 through Tacoma has come to a near standstill this Friday afternoon due to multiple accidents affecting both directions. According to the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT), southbound traffic is backed up to state Route 18 in Federal Way, causing significant delays for commuters. A notable collision near East Bay Street was reported around 3:07 PM, severely hampering northbound traffic and extending the backup to the state Route 16 interchange. Concurrently, Interstate 705 is facing additional delays due to another accident at the I-705/SR 7 extension interchange. The HOV lane on I-5 has also been blocked, compounding the traffic issues.

WSDOT is actively monitoring the incidents and providing updates through their real-time traffic map and social media channels. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes or anticipate substantial delays if traveling in the Tacoma area as WSDOT works to clear the accidents and restore normal traffic flow.
