A tragic accident unfolded on Saturday night in Puyallup when a 26-year-old Tacoma woman was fatally struck by a driver while attempting to flag down assistance for her disabled vehicle. The driver, a 31-year-old man, did not show signs of impairment and remained at the scene, promptly calling 911. However, he was cited for driving with a suspended license and for not having proof of insurance. The incident occurred around 11 p. m.

in the 2400 block of South Meridian, where the woman and her two children had pulled into a parking lot after their car broke down. It is believed she was trying to signal for help when the driver collided with her. Emergency services responded quickly, and she was transported to an area hospital, but sadly, she passed away at around 2:40 a. m. the following morning.

This incident highlights significant concerns regarding pedestrian safety in Puyallup and the broader implications for road safety policies. Community members are left to grapple with the consequences of such tragic events and the urgent need for improved safety measures for pedestrians.
