A chimney fire broke out on the roof of Tacoma's McMenamins Elks Temple late on December 9, 2024, prompting a rapid response from the Tacoma Fire Department. The fire was reported at 9:42 PM, and firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished by 9:50 PM, with thermal imaging confirming that it had not spread to the building structure. An employee described the incident as a 'minimal situation,' and operations continued without interruption the next day. Firefighters instructed the establishment to refrain from using their fireplaces until a professional cleaning could be performed.

Videos and images shared online captured the visible flames and smoke, highlighting the effective response of the fire department and the importance of chimney maintenance to prevent future incidents.
