Two lanes closed on westbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge Dec. 14-15 | Tacoma News Tribune

Tacoma, WALocal News

Traffic delays are anticipated for drivers crossing the Tacoma Narrows Bridge this weekend, as the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close two right lanes and the Jackson Avenue on-ramp for essential repairs. The closure is scheduled from 8 a. m. on Saturday, December 14, to 9 p. m.

on Sunday, December 15, with the HOV lane available for all drivers during this period. Crews will focus on repairing an expansion joint, which is separate from previous repairs conducted in May after a routine inspection revealed damage. The aging bridge, constructed in 1950, has faced multiple repair needs over the years, including issues with rust and corroded components. Approximately 45,000 vehicles use the bridge daily, underscoring the significant impact of these repairs on local traffic. WSDOT urges travelers to plan for additional travel time and remain vigilant for the safety of road workers and other motorists.

Updates on traffic and construction can be accessed through the WSDOT app and email alerts. This ongoing maintenance highlights the challenges of managing aging infrastructure in Washington State.
