Grit City Greens closing Tacoma restaurant | Tacoma News Tribune

Tacoma, WALocal News

Grit City Greens, a Tacoma cafe specializing in healthy, customizable meals, will close permanently on December 13, as confirmed by the owners, Corie Cameron and Sean Guay. The decision comes after a challenging period marked by escalating costs for food, supplies, and rent, making it impossible for them to sustain the business. The couple reflected on their eight-year journey, noting their gratitude for the community's support, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when they delivered thousands of meals to first responders. Initially launched as Crisp Meals in 2016, the business evolved into a well-known cafe in 2019 but faced significant setbacks with the onset of the pandemic. Additionally, they encountered legal troubles when a Minnesota-based chain with a similar name sued them for copyright infringement, forcing them to rebrand as Grit City Greens.

In their farewell message, they thanked loyal customers for their support over the years and expressed hope to continue their journey in the food industry. Cameron mentioned a desire to find a comfortable place in food service while also spending time with their four children during the holidays. The closure serves as a poignant reminder of the difficulties faced by small businesses in today's economic climate.
