Lakewood approves boat launch repairs for American Lake Park | Tacoma News Tribune

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Lakewood City Council has unanimously approved a $90,000 plan to repair the American Lake Park boat launch, which has been closed since October due to low water levels and damage to vehicles and trailers. The repairs will involve replacing damaged planks and blocks, adding boulders for stability, and improving signage for better navigation. Parks and Recreation Director Mary Dodsworth highlighted the necessity of conducting repairs while water levels are low. An interlocal agreement with the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife will provide local expertise and resources for the project. This team has previously worked on the Edgewater Launch and the American Lake launch in 2008-2009, ensuring reliability and cost-effectiveness.

This initiative addresses safety concerns and aims to restore the functionality of a key recreational facility for the community. With repairs scheduled to commence this month, residents can look forward to a revitalized boat launch that supports outdoor activities in Lakewood, reflecting the city’s commitment to maintaining and improving public amenities.
