Pierce County man charged with rape following SWAT standoff

Tacoma, WALocal News

Daniel James Redwine, 44, was arrested after a SWAT standoff in Pierce County, facing serious charges including second-degree rape, assault, and unlawful imprisonment. The allegations arose from an incident where the victim reported that Redwine assaulted her after she requested to stop their intimate encounter due to pain. The victim's sister expressed grave concerns for her sister's safety, highlighting the victim's mental health challenges, such as agoraphobia and PTSD, which have left her feeling unsafe even in her own home. The standoff, which lasted over two hours, ended when law enforcement attempted to breach the front door, prompting Redwine to surrender. Following his arrest, bail was set at $500,000, reflecting the severity of the charges.

The victim's sister's statement sheds light on the emotional distress and fear experienced by the victim and her family, while Redwine's extensive criminal history raises additional concerns about public safety. This case underscores significant issues surrounding sexual assault, victim safety, and the impact of mental health in the aftermath of trauma.
