Jay Choi, a 62-year-old Tacoma man, has been identified as the victim of a fatal stabbing on November 27, 2024. The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office reported that Choi died from multiple sharp-force injuries, ruling his death a homicide. His wife, Youngmi Shin, 52, has been charged with two counts of second-degree domestic-violence murder. She claims that during a heated altercation, Choi, who had been drinking, attempted to leave, prompting her to hide the car keys. Court documents indicate that while she blocked the door, Choi allegedly assaulted her, leading Shin to assert that she acted in self-defense.

She is currently incarcerated at Pierce County Jail with a bail set at $1 million. This case sheds light on the pervasive issue of domestic violence and the complexities surrounding self-defense claims in such tragic situations.
