Proclamation celebrates County parks, trails

Tacoma, WALocal News

On July 1, 2025, Pierce County officially proclaimed July as Park and Recreation Appreciation Month, honoring a tradition established by the U. S. House of Representatives in 2009. The theme "Build Together, Play Together" reflects the collaborative spirit of the county, where residents and volunteers come together to enhance local parks. Events such as Bark by the Bay and the Kite Festival will be held to engage the community and promote outdoor activities.

Trail Days, set for July 25-27, will offer organized explorations of local trails, addressing the need for accessible outdoor recreation. Pierce County boasts over 5,200 acres of managed parkland and 40 miles of developed trails, more than any other provider in the region. These initiatives are designed to foster connections among residents and promote healthy lifestyles through outdoor activities. The county aims to make recreation easy and accessible, encouraging participation from all ages and abilities. These efforts contribute to creating lifelong memories and strengthening community ties.
