Summer Late Nights recognized nationally

The Pierce County Council announced that the county earned a 2025 Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties for the Summer Late Nights initiative. In 2024, the program recorded 15,960 visits, serving over 2,000 students and surpassing its expansion goals. The initiative focuses on low- and moderate-opportunity areas to ensure accessibility for all youth. The 2024-2025 Biennial Budget includes a $1 million appropriation to further expand educational and social activities for students. Councilmember Rosie Ayala highlighted the successful collaboration among various agencies, including Tacoma Public Schools and local nonprofits, which helped establish the program in response to youth gun violence.

Summer Late Nights offers a safe space for middle and high school students, featuring free dinners and various recreational activities. The program runs until August 29, 2025, with additional support from surrounding school districts. For more information, visit the Tacoma Parks website.
