Pipeline Trail opens with ribbon cutting

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Pipeline Trail's new 1. 6-mile segment opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 28, extending its total length to 5. 8 miles. Local officials, including Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello, emphasized the trail's role in enhancing community connectivity and access to outdoor recreation. Community activities at Orangegate Park included guided bird walks, nature scavenger hunts, and games for children, fostering engagement and celebration.

Plans are underway to further extend the trail to South Hill, connecting it with the Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail and the Heritage Recreation Center. This project aligns with the broader Tahoma to Tacoma vision, which aims to create over 21 miles of interconnected trails. Phase 2 is in the design and permitting stage, with expected completion by mid-2026. The initiative not only promotes recreation but also emphasizes equity in access to greenspace for all families. Pierce County Parks will temporarily close part of Orangegate Park for forest health operations this summer.
