Zion International Film Festival returns to the Blue Mouse

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Zion International Film Festival is set to run from June 27 to July 3 at the Blue Mouse Theatre, featuring a diverse lineup of films that focus on uplifting narratives. Founder Laura Nyhuis, who previously led the Tacoma Film Festival, curated about 100 films from 500 submissions to ensure quality programming. The festival will host a variety of events, including screenings, filmmaker Q&As, and a "Breakfast and Cold Plunge" event at Owen Beach, encouraging community engagement. Nyhuis aims to highlight stories that reflect beauty and creativity, steering away from the nihilistic themes often found in independent cinema. Attendees can experience the festival in person or stream selected films online, broadening accessibility.

The Blue Mouse Theatre has recently upgraded its seating, promising a more comfortable viewing experience for attendees. The festival also includes an awards party where winners will be announced, judged by industry leaders. This event not only celebrates international films but also fosters local artistic connections in Tacoma.
