The Yakima Valley Museum has launched the 2025 Justice William O. Douglas Essay Contest, aimed at high school students in grades 9-12 and college students from select universities. This contest honors Justice William O. Douglas, a prominent Yakima-born figure and the longest-serving justice in U. S.

Supreme Court history. Participants are encouraged to delve into themes from Douglas' life and articulate their visions for a just and sustainable future. The submission deadline is July 15, 2025, at 11:59 PM, with winners and their nominating teachers to be recognized at the William O. Douglas Award Banquet on August 23, 2025. The event underscores the museum's commitment to fostering educational opportunities and community engagement.

Students attending any public, private, parochial, or homeschool within Educational Service District 105 are eligible to enter, along with college students from four local institutions.
