The City of Sunnyside received nearly $1. 3 million in state funding for key infrastructure and recreational projects, as the Washington State Legislature approved the 2025–2027 Capital Budget. The budget, now heading to the Governor’s desk, includes $257,000 for rebuilding Downtown Centennial Square, $515,000 for repairing municipal pool infrastructure, and $515,000 for developing a soccer field at Tina Knoth Park. These projects aim to enhance public spaces and improve residents' quality of life. City Manager Mike Gonzalez thanked local legislators, including Representative Gloria Mendoza and Senator Nikki Torres, for their advocacy.

He acknowledged the contributions of Culton Consulting and city officials who traveled to Olympia to lobby for these initiatives. This funding demonstrates a commitment to enhancing community infrastructure and recreational opportunities. The city anticipates that these investments will benefit residents for years to come.
