Newhouse visits YKM, tours the active construction site

Sunnyside, WALocal News

Representative Dan Newhouse toured the Yakima Air Terminal on Thursday, examining ongoing construction that will include a future restaurant and additional gates. Through his role on the House Appropriations Committee, he plays a critical part in determining grant distributions for community projects, with the Yakima airport being a focal point. He remarked, “As our population grows, and as people travel more, having a convenient airport to do that is very important. " Local leaders, including Yakima City Manager Vicki Baker and Mayor Patricia Byers, joined him on the tour. Newhouse underscored the urgency of safe travel alternatives due to rising highway congestion and the challenges of winter mountain crossings.

The airport's enhancements aim to promote economic activity and provide residents with better travel options. Yakima's growing population necessitates infrastructure improvements to support increased demand for air travel. The construction is part of broader efforts to modernize and expand local transportation facilities.
