Paws in the Pool is Sunday, August 24th as Franklin Pool set to be closed

Sunnyside, WALocal News

Paws in the Pool will occur on Sunday, August 24th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Franklin Pool in Yakima. This annual event invites dogs and their owners to enjoy swimming together, with dogs swimming for free and owners paying a general admission fee. Participants must ensure their dogs are current on vaccinations and are responsible for cleaning up. Donations will be accepted for the Yakima Humane Society during the event. The pool's closure is notable, as August 24th marks its last day of operation before shutting down in 2026 due to financial constraints.

The Yakima City Council's decision to close the pool was part of a larger $3 million cost-cutting strategy aimed at addressing a projected $9 million budget shortfall. This year's event not only provides a fun day for pets and their owners but also highlights the community's efforts to support local animal welfare.
