Over a dozen elections in November have no candidates

Sunnyside, WALocal News

The Yakima County Auditor revealed that several local elections in November, including seats on the Harrah town council and school boards, lack candidates. The special candidate filing window will run from August 11 to 13, providing an opportunity for potential candidates to step forward. If no applications are received, current incumbents will continue in their roles. If an incumbent decides to resign, districts hold the authority to appoint a temporary replacement for the unexpired term. This temporary appointment would then be up for election on the 2027 ballot.

If no one accepts the appointment, the seat will remain vacant until the next election cycle. Local officials emphasize the importance of filling these positions to ensure community representation. The situation raises concerns about civic engagement and the future of local governance.
