West Valley Students create playhouses to benefit the Habitat for Humanity
West Valley High School students created two playhouses—a beach house and a cabin—to support Habitat for Humanity through an auction. Led by construction teacher Stephen Natczak, the project focused on project-based learning, encouraging students to engage in hands-on work while developing essential skills. Chelsea Trammel from Habitat for Humanity confirmed that this is their first collaboration with the school, which began in the fall and continued into spring. Once completed, students delivered the playhouses for painting and decorating, preparing them for auction. Shelly Parker, Marketing and Communications manager for Habitat, emphasized the project's alignment with the organization's mission of fostering community connections.
The auction will raise funds to assist families in securing homes, highlighting the importance of the initiative. With this year's success, future projects may include building tiny houses or adult sheds. The creativity and collaboration demonstrated by students showcase the potential for impactful local partnerships.
