City Provides Annual Report on Drinking Water Quality

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane has released its annual drinking water quality report for 2024, confirming full compliance with state and federal standards for safe drinking water. The report noted low-level detections of PFAS chemicals at three well sites, with one well showing levels slightly above the new EPA standard, yet still below the state's action level. The city employs a four-quarter rolling average for compliance, which currently indicates safety at four parts per trillion. Director of Public Works Marlene Feist reiterated the city's commitment to providing clean drinking water as environmental concerns grow. Spokane has joined a lawsuit against manufacturers responsible for PFAS contamination and is actively investigating potential pollution sources.

The Water Department continues to monitor regulatory developments and enhance testing protocols for these chemicals. Residents can view the full 2024 water quality report on the city's website or request a printed copy. Water conservation efforts are also in place, including an odd/even watering schedule to reduce waste during peak irrigation seasons.
