DUI Driver Seriously Injures Two People in Two Separate Collisions

On June 8, 2025, Cautia McArthur, 19, was arrested for causing two crashes in Spokane, seriously injuring two individuals. The first incident occurred when she struck a pedestrian, who was trying to prevent her from fleeing after a minor crash; he remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Shortly thereafter, she ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle, sending both vehicles into parked cars and injuring an adult female. Witnesses noted that McArthur's vehicle was speeding before the second crash. The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit is handling the investigation due to the serious nature of the incidents.

Impaired driving fatalities have been trending upward in Spokane, prompting local law enforcement to increase DUI enforcement efforts. Spokane currently employs two full-time DUI officers, with one position funded by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. Authorities encourage the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
