Mayor Brown Proposes Boost to Opioid Treatment, Navigation Services
Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown announced a $730,000 funding proposal for opioid treatment services during a recent Gabriel’s Challenge community meeting. The proposal allocates $300,000 for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome treatment at Maddie’s Place, a non-profit nursery dedicated to infants experiencing withdrawal. Additionally, $30,000 will support mobile medication-assisted treatment initiatives, while $400,000 aims to establish an outdoor navigation program for individuals facing opioid use disorder. Mayor Brown stated the initiative seeks to bolster community organizations on the front lines of the crisis. Shaun Cross, President & CEO of Maddie’s Place, praised the funding for ensuring continued care and advocacy for sustainable healthcare solutions.
Spokane has already invested $2,480,350 in opioid settlement funds to enhance various related services, including behavioral health and treatment access. This proposal represents a critical step towards addressing the opioid epidemic's impact on families and individuals in the city. The ongoing funding efforts underscore Spokane's commitment to providing comprehensive support to those affected by substance use disorders.
