Flags Lowered for Representative Frank Chopp

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown ordered flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of former Speaker of the House Frank Chopp, who passed away on March 22, 2025. Governor Bob Ferguson's directive also mandates that state and U. S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered. Mayor Brown expressed her condolences, stating, "Frank Chopp was Washington’s longest-serving Speaker of the House and my longtime friend and colleague.

" She emphasized Chopp's commitment to housing and healthcare, describing him as a passionate advocate. A memorial service for Chopp is set for June 1 at 2 p. m. at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. Local residents are urged to honor his memory by displaying flags at their homes or businesses.

Chopp served in the Washington House of Representatives for over two decades, significantly influencing state legislation. His contributions to public service and community well-being will be cherished by many throughout Washington.
