Local Agencies Launch New Data Dashboard to Increase Understanding of Homelessness System

Spokane, WALocal News

Local agencies in Spokane, including the City of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Spokane County, and the Spokane Regional Health District, have launched a new data dashboard designed to enhance understanding of homelessness in the area. This dashboard provides essential metrics such as the number of individuals experiencing homelessness, shelter exit rates, and average program durations. Data is sourced from the City’s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), which aggregates information from various local service providers. The dashboard aims to assist lawmakers, advocates, and residents in identifying gaps in the homelessness support system and making informed resource allocation decisions. Mayor Lisa Brown noted that this initiative marks a significant advancement in transparency and accountability, helping the community understand the challenges faced by vulnerable populations.

Spokane Valley Mayor Pam Haley expressed optimism that the data will guide effective regional solutions, while Spokane County Commissioner Mary Kuney emphasized its role in enhancing funding transparency and building taxpayer trust. This collaborative project exemplifies how data-driven approaches can lead to effective strategies for addressing homelessness.
