Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
The Spokane City Council is organizing a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs, which address local food insecurity. Zilch collects and distributes food to small pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious meals to students in grades K-12. Council Member Paul Dillon emphasized the broader impact of these initiatives, stating they foster dignity and stability for families. Notably, 1 in 5 children in the region struggle with hunger, which affects their ability to learn. Donations of non-perishable food and monetary contributions can be made at designated drop boxes in City Hall.
Council Member Michael Cathcart urged community members to contribute, even while attending utility payments. This initiative aims not only to alleviate hunger but also to support long-term community health and student retention.
