Spokane Police Department and Gonzaga University co-host weeklong Dialogue Policing training
Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department co-hosted a weeklong training program on Dialogue Policing to bolster communication skills among law enforcement. This comprehensive 40-hour course, created by the Columbus Police Department, aims to improve interactions with community members during large gatherings. Attending officers were introduced to community activist perspectives and engaged in a Q&A session with local activists and media representatives. The training emphasized de-escalation techniques and crowd psychology informed by scientific research, equipping officers with essential skills. Officers participated in practical training scenarios to enhance their communication abilities before completing certification requirements.
