Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department co-hosted a weeklong training program on Dialogue Policing to bolster communication skills among law enforcement. This comprehensive 40-hour course, created by the Columbus Police Department, aims to improve interactions with community members during large gatherings. Attending officers were introduced to community activist perspectives and engaged in a Q&A session with local activists and media representatives. The training emphasized de-escalation techniques and crowd psychology informed by scientific research, equipping officers with essential skills. Officers participated in practical training scenarios to enhance their communication abilities before completing certification requirements.

Multiple agencies in and around Spokane attended, highlighting the program's regional significance. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to fostering collaboration between law enforcement and the community, aiming to build trust and understanding.
