Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
Spokane City Council and city employees will host a food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support local food assistance programs Zilch and Bite2Go. Zilch focuses on collecting food for immediate distribution through small pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend meals to K-12 students. Council Member Paul Dillon noted the program's significance in promoting student retention and overall community health. In Spokane, one in five children faces food insecurity, which hampers their ability to learn effectively. Community members can donate non-perishable items at designated drop boxes in City Hall or contribute financially through a secure QR code linked to Bite2Go at 2nd Harvest.
Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged participation, highlighting the dual opportunity to engage with the Council and support the community. The food drive underscores the city's commitment to addressing food insecurity among children. For more information on the programs, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
