Spokane Police Department and Gonzaga University co-host weeklong Dialogue Policing training
Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department co-hosted a weeklong Dialogue Policing training event starting October 6th. This 40-hour course, developed by the Columbus Police Department, is designed to enhance communication skills for law enforcement during large gatherings. Officers were introduced to the Dialogue Policing model and participated in discussions with local activists and media members, promoting understanding and collaboration. The training included a focus on de-escalation techniques and science-informed crowd psychology. To ensure comprehension, officers engaged in realistic training scenarios and completed certification requirements by the end of the week.
This event highlights the commitment of Spokane law enforcement to improve community relations and address concerns during large public gatherings. The training aligns with ongoing efforts to implement evidence-based practices in policing. Local agencies and community members' involvement underscores the significance of cooperative engagement in public safety.
