Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council and City Employees launched a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch focuses on collecting food for immediate distribution through local pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend meals to students in grades K-12. Council Member Paul Dillon underscored the importance of addressing food insecurity for community dignity and stability. According to Bite2Go, one in five children in the region faces hunger, which hinders their educational focus. Donations can be made at designated drop boxes in City Hall and through a secure QR code for monetary gifts, ensuring donor confidentiality.

Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged residents to participate by bringing non-perishable items when visiting City Hall. This effort aims to bolster student retention and promote long-term community health. For more information, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
