Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council and city employees will host a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to benefit the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food for distribution to small food pantries, while Bite2Go supplies weekend meals for public school students in grades K-12. Council Member Paul Dillon stressed the significance of addressing food insecurity for student retention and community health. Bite2Go reports that one in five children in the region face hunger daily, which impacts their ability to focus in school. Donations of non-perishable food items can be made at City Hall, where designated drop boxes are located on multiple floors.

Monetary contributions can also be made through a secure QR code linked to 2nd Harvest. This initiative contributes to the broader goal of fostering community support and ensuring that all children have access to nutritious food. Community members are encouraged to participate by donating items or funds during the food drive.
