Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council will run a food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to benefit the Zilch and Bite2Go programs, which combat food insecurity among local children. Zilch collects food items for immediate distribution to small food pantries, while Bite2Go supplies nutritious weekend meals to K-12 students. Council Member Paul Dillon highlighted the importance of this effort for community health and student retention, noting that one in five children in Spokane face hunger daily. Hunger affects children's ability to learn and focus in school. Donations of non-perishable food can be made at designated drop boxes in City Hall, and monetary contributions can be made via a secure QR code.

This initiative aims to foster community solidarity and ensure that no child in Spokane goes hungry. Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged residents to participate, even if they cannot attend Council meetings. For more information, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
