Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council and City Employees will host a community food drive from October 15 to December 15, focusing on the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch facilitates food collection for immediate distribution, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend meals to K-12 students, addressing significant food insecurity issues. Council Member Paul Dillon emphasized, “It’s about dignity and stability,” highlighting the broader implications of hunger on community health. In Spokane, 1 in 5 children regularly confronts hunger, which affects their learning capabilities. Residents are encouraged to donate non-perishable foods and monetary contributions at City Hall drop boxes.

Council Member Michael Cathcart noted that attending a council meeting is a great opportunity to contribute. The initiative aims to support student retention and community well-being. For more details about the programs, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
