Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council and city employees have initiated a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support local food insecurity programs, Zilch and Bite2Go. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution to small pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend meals to K-12 students. Council Member Paul Dillon highlighted the program's significance for promoting dignity and stability among families. Bite2Go reports that one in five children in the area struggles with hunger, negatively impacting their focus and learning. Donations of non-perishable food and monetary support can be made at City Hall or via a QR code linked to Bite2Go.

Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged community members to participate, emphasizing that visiting City Hall for the drive can enhance civic engagement. The program underscores the city’s commitment to addressing food insecurity and fostering community health. For more details, individuals can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
