Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
Spokane City Council and city employees will host a community food drive from October 15 to December 15, supporting the Zilch and Bite2Go programs that address food insecurity. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution through small pantries, while Bite2Go supplies nutritious meals to K-12 students on weekends. Council Member Paul Dillon stated that the initiative is crucial for community health and student retention, emphasizing that 1 in 5 children in the region struggle with hunger daily. Donations of non-perishable food and monetary gifts can be made at City Hall, where designated drop boxes will be available. Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged community members to participate, suggesting they bring items while paying utility bills.
The food drive aims to ensure that no child in Spokane goes hungry and to foster a sense of dignity and stability within the community. Financial contributions can also be made securely via a QR code linked to Bite2Go at 2nd Harvest. For more details about the programs, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
