Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council is launching a food drive from October 15 to December 15 to bolster the Zilch and Bite2Go programs, which tackle food insecurity in the area. Zilch works with small food pantries for immediate distribution, while Bite2Go provides nutritious meals to K-12 students over weekends. Council Member Paul Dillon remarked on the initiative's role in fostering dignity and stability for families facing hunger. According to Bite2Go, 1 in 5 children in Spokane confronts food scarcity daily, hindering their educational focus. Donations of non-perishable food and monetary contributions are accepted at designated drop boxes in City Hall.

Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged residents to participate, emphasizing the dual purpose of the food drive and council meetings. This community engagement aims to ensure that no child in Spokane experiences hunger. The initiative reflects the council's commitment to enhancing community health and student retention.
