Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
Spokane City Council and City Employees will host a food drive from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs, which tackle food insecurity. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution, while Bite2Go provides meals for K-12 students. Council Member Paul Dillon stated that addressing hunger is crucial for children's learning and stability, emphasizing that 1 in 5 children in the area face food scarcity. Donations of non-perishable food and monetary contributions can be made at City Hall, with designated drop boxes on multiple floors. Council Member Michael Cathcart urged residents to bring donations when visiting for City Council meetings or utility payments.
The fundraiser aims to ensure every child in Spokane has access to nutritious food. Community engagement is key, as local efforts can significantly impact children's well-being and academic success. For more details, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
