Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
Spokane City Council and city employees will conduct a food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support local initiatives Zilch and Bite2Go, aimed at addressing food insecurity. Zilch collects and distributes food through small pantries, while Bite2Go supplies nutritious weekend meals to students in grades K-12. Council Member Paul Dillon highlighted the importance of this initiative for community health and student retention, stating that it promotes dignity and stability. In the region, 1 in 5 children face hunger, which hampers their learning capabilities. Donations can be made by dropping off non-perishable food items or monetary contributions at City Hall, where designated drop boxes are located.
A secure QR code on the City Hall Fundraiser Poster allows for online donations directly to Bite2Go. Council Member Michael Cathcart urged residents to participate in the food drive while attending City Council meetings or paying utility bills. This collaborative effort aims to ensure that no child in Spokane goes hungry.
