SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) launched Seek Then Speak, a national initiative aimed at aiding sexual assault survivors in navigating the reporting process. This resource allows survivors and their supporters to gather crucial information on medical care and available services. The self-guided interview is designed for individuals aged 18 and older, enabling them to collect necessary details while educating them about their rights. After completing the interview, survivors receive a PDF to save or submit to law enforcement if they choose to report. SPD hopes that Seek Then Speak will enhance support for survivors within Spokane, creating a more accessible pathway for reporting.
The program underscores the importance of seeking immediate assistance through emergency services when necessary. Additionally, it provides alternative contact numbers for mental health crises and non-emergency reporting. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to improving resources for survivors of sexual assault.
