Proposed Resolution Outlines City of Spokane's Federal Priorities
Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown and the City Council introduced a resolution at the Finance Committee meeting that outlines their federal priorities for 2025-2026. The resolution calls for sustained funding in four areas: civil rights protection, public safety improvements, economic growth, and infrastructure investment. Notably, the city seeks funding to expand alternative mental health response teams, which would provide 24/7 coverage alongside police and fire personnel. City leaders also advocate for reinstating $48 million for the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center, a move expected to create local jobs. Additionally, the city aims to restore funding for critical infrastructure projects, including the Latah Bridge Rehabilitation Project and PFAS mitigation efforts.
Mayor Brown stated that federal support is essential for local governments to effectively deliver services. The resolution reflects the city’s commitment to its residents and working populations during challenging times. Councilmember Dillon emphasized the need for advocacy in light of ongoing uncertainties.
