SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) launched the Seek Then Speak program, providing sexual assault survivors in Washington with a confidential platform to gather information and report incidents. This initiative allows survivors and their support networks to collect critical information about medical care and supportive services. Individuals aged 18 and older can engage in a self-guided interview that generates a PDF report, which they can retain or submit to law enforcement. By offering this option, SPD aims to empower survivors while ensuring they have access to necessary resources and support. The program is designed for situations that do not require immediate law enforcement intervention, underscoring the importance of calling 911 in emergencies.
Seek Then Speak is part of a national initiative developed by EVAWI (Ending Violence Against Women International) to improve reporting pathways for survivors across the U. S. This new option reflects a commitment to addressing the needs of survivors in Spokane and enhancing community resources. The launch of Seek Then Speak signifies a proactive step towards supporting survivors in navigating their options and understanding their rights.
