SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) unveiled Seek Then Speak, a new reporting option for sexual assault survivors. Developed by EVAWI, this national resource allows survivors to gather critical information privately and initiate the reporting process if they choose. The self-guided interview, available for those aged 18 and older, enables survivors to complete the process at their own pace, resulting in a PDF that can be submitted to law enforcement or saved for future reference. This initiative enhances support for survivors in Spokane, offering access to medical care and various supportive services. SPD clarifies that Seek Then Speak is designed for non-emergency situations, urging individuals in immediate danger to call 911.
The launch aligns with broader efforts to empower survivors and provide them with essential resources. Additionally, the program reflects a growing recognition of the need for alternative reporting mechanisms in addressing sexual assault. Seek Then Speak represents a significant step forward in enhancing survivor support in the Spokane area.
