SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has launched Seek Then Speak, an innovative reporting option for sexual assault survivors in Washington. This national resource, created by EVAWI, allows survivors to privately collect information regarding medical care and supportive services. The platform includes a self-guided interview for survivors aged 18 and older, enabling them to provide critical information at their own pace. Upon completion, the interview generates a PDF that survivors can save or submit to law enforcement at their discretion. SPD highlights that Seek Then Speak is designed for situations that do not require immediate law enforcement response, directing individuals in crisis to call 911.
This initiative significantly enhances local support for survivors, giving them the tools they need to navigate their options effectively. The program also underscores the importance of privacy and empowerment in the reporting process. By adopting this resource, SPD aims to foster a more supportive environment for survivors within Spokane.
