SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has launched the Seek Then Speak platform, enhancing support for sexual assault survivors in Washington by providing a private means to gather important information and initiate the reporting process. This national resource, developed by EVAWI, allows survivors and their supporters to access vital details about medical care, supportive services, and reporting options. Survivors aged 18 and older can engage in a self-guided interview that generates a PDF, which they can either save for their records or submit to law enforcement when they feel ready. The initiative is particularly significant as it offers a new pathway for survivors who may be hesitant to report immediately, emphasizing the importance of their comfort and readiness. The SPD stresses that Seek Then Speak is designed for situations that do not require immediate law enforcement intervention, directing individuals in crisis to call 911.
This resource aligns with national efforts to improve the reporting process for sexual assault and to provide comprehensive support for survivors. By facilitating access to crucial information, the SPD aims to empower survivors in their healing journey. The launch of Seek Then Speak reflects a commitment to addressing the needs of sexual assault survivors within the Spokane community.
