SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) launched Seek Then Speak, an innovative reporting option for sexual assault survivors in Washington. This resource, developed by EVAWI, facilitates the gathering of essential information about medical and supportive services for survivors. The platform allows individuals aged 18 and older to complete a self-guided interview at their own pace, educating them about their rights throughout the process. After finishing the interview, survivors receive a PDF with their information, which they can save or submit to law enforcement. SPD's adoption of Seek Then Speak aims to empower survivors by providing them with necessary resources and a structured reporting pathway.
The initiative highlights the importance of safety, urging individuals to call 911 for emergencies. Additionally, non-emergency police services are accessible through Crime Check, and social services can be reached by calling 211. This program reflects a broader commitment to supporting survivors and fostering a more informed community.
