SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) has unveiled Seek Then Speak, an innovative reporting option for sexual assault survivors. Created by Ending Violence Against Women International (EVAWI), this resource allows survivors and their support networks to privately gather vital information regarding medical care and supportive services. The "Speak" feature enables survivors aged 18 and older to complete a self-guided interview at their convenience, producing a PDF that contains critical details regarding their situation. Survivors can either save this document for their records or submit it to law enforcement when they feel ready to report. Seek Then Speak aims to provide a safe space for survivors to access information and resources without the pressure of immediate law enforcement involvement.
This initiative is particularly significant for the Spokane area, as it addresses the specific needs of local survivors. The program emphasizes the importance of empowering individuals with knowledge about their rights and available support. With this launch, SPD reinforces its commitment to supporting sexual assault survivors in the community.
