Construction Project Changes

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane city officials announced the postponement of the Maxwell Avenue Bike and Pedestrian Safety Upgrades project, resulting in significant slowdowns on southbound North Ash Street from September 22 to 24. The southbound lanes will merge from three to one, likely causing congestion on Northwest Boulevard and Ash Street during peak hours. Meanwhile, Rockwood Boulevard will be closed to all traffic from September 15 to 17 for crucial water, sewer, and stormwater system improvements. This construction directly affects access to Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital, with local access maintained despite the closures. Pedestrians may encounter sidewalk detours, and no on-street metered parking will be available in the affected areas.

City officials advise drivers to use alternative routes and adjust their travel times to avoid peak congestion. The construction is expected to be completed by mid-October, with the city urging residents to support local businesses impacted by the work. Current obstruction information is available on the city’s construction webpage.
