Fleeing Felon Taken Into Custody Firearm Recovered

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane police arrested Richard Tomich, 43, after he was observed armed with a revolver in downtown Spokane on August 28, 2025. Officers saw him exit his vehicle and attempted to stop him as he fled the area, driving dangerously and nearly hitting pedestrians. Due to the high traffic and safety concerns, police did not pursue him. They later discovered Tomich's unoccupied vehicle and detained him nearby without incident. Initially, the firearm was missing, but officers retraced his escape route and, with the help of a K9, found the gun discarded on a sidewalk.

During the investigation, authorities uncovered a large quantity of drugs and cash in Tomich's possession. He now faces charges including attempting to elude a police vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding public safety and gun possession among convicted felons in Spokane.
