Man Rescued in House Fire, Rushed to Hospital in Critical Condition

Firefighters rescued an unconscious man from a duplex fire at 804 South Sherman Street in Spokane on August 25, 2025, at 10:39 a. m. Engine 1 from the Riverside Neighborhood arrived four minutes later, confirming flames from the first floor extending to the second story and attic. During their search, they found the adult male and removed him from the building less than four minutes after arrival. He was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition as the incident escalated to a second alarm.

Firefighters controlled the fire within 20 minutes, but the damage rendered the structure uninhabitable. The Spokane Fire Department will remain on the scene for several hours to extinguish any remaining hotspots. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with no additional injuries reported. This incident highlights the risks associated with residential fires and the importance of prompt emergency response.
