Mayor Brown Signs Updated 'Complete Streets' Ordinance into Law
Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown signed an updated “Complete Streets” ordinance on August 6, 2025, reaffirming the city's commitment to accessible streets for all users. This policy, led by Director of Transportation Jon Snyder and sponsored by Councilmembers Kitty Klitzke and Paul Dillon, modernizes Spokane Municipal Code and aligns it with state law. By referencing the Pedestrian Master Plan and Bicycle Priority Network, the ordinance enhances the city’s chances of securing state grants for future projects. The update aims to incorporate walking and biking improvements into street projects, ultimately saving costs while upgrading the city’s infrastructure. Mayor Brown stated that the legislation will promote safer access for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and public transit users.
Councilmember Klitzke expressed gratitude for citizen input in the collaborative effort to enhance mobility for Spokane residents. Councilmember Dillon added that the updates reflect a commitment to creating a safer and more connected community. This legislation is seen as a significant step towards designing a transportation network that works for everyone in Spokane.
