City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane launched a community climate policy survey to gather public input on future climate actions. The survey, which is open until August 31, 2025, seeks feedback on policies that will influence the PlanSpokane 2046 update. Mayor Lisa Brown stressed the importance of hearing from all 29 neighborhoods to ensure a comprehensive understanding of community priorities. Earlier this year, the city collected input from over 1,500 residents regarding their experiences with climate challenges like wildfires and extreme heat. This feedback contributed to the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment, which integrates personal stories with extensive data on local climate risks.

The climate planning project is financed by a state grant from the Washington Department of Commerce, funded by the Climate Commitment Act. This act aims to reduce climate pollution while creating jobs and enhancing public health. The survey is accessible in English, Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, and Marshallese, ensuring broad community participation.
