City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning
The City of Spokane has launched a climate policy survey to engage the community in shaping future climate strategies. The survey will remain open until August 31, 2025, encouraging residents to express their policy preferences. Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the need for community involvement, noting the widespread effects of climate change across Spokane's neighborhoods. Earlier this year, over 1,500 community members shared their insights on local climate challenges, contributing to a comprehensive Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment. The survey is accessible in several languages, promoting inclusivity in the feedback process.
Results will inform the PlanSpokane 2046 update, which will guide city staff and leaders in climate action decisions. This initiative is funded through a state grant from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, designed to reduce climate pollution and enhance public health. The Act aims to create jobs while supporting the state’s climate goals, demonstrating a commitment to a sustainable future.
